Heating buildings by burning fossil fuels causes significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In Canada, emissions from buildings account for 12% of total emissions. Nearly 60% of Vancouvers emissions are attributable to heating in buildings. As part of the drive to reduce emissions, the Vancouver Building By-law (effective January 2022) will require zero emissions equipment for space and hot water heating, as well as additional roof insulation, in new low-rise residential buildings. Learning Objectives This webinar will focus on reducing GHG emissions from buildings through electrification. Well look at the benefits of heat pump technology, its implementation in buildings as well as its use in 5th generation district energy systems. The webinar will also discuss funding options for electrification projects in BC. |
